Membership Requirements

1. A person may be in the Horde when s)he and three sponsors all sign a membership form and forward it to the registry.

2. A person may be a member of the Horde when s/he has been active in the SCA for at least six months.

3. Every candidate shall be watched for at least six months before s/he may join the Horde. S/he must read and agree to the Code of Conduct and the Yasa.

4. Any candidate for membership must be sufficiently mature (as judged by the sponsors) to handle the responsibilities of brotherhood. For anyone who is not yet 18, only one blood relative will be allowed to stand as sponsor.

5. Children of brothers that have not yet been sponsored have a special status. They shall be called “Hordelings”. They shall have all the rights of a Horde Friend.

6. All brothers must contact the registry at least once per year. This may be done in person, by letter, by proxy, or by phone. This may be done by way of Khuraltai, Khural, the Khan, the Noyan, or the Registrar. If this is not done (within a three month grace period) the person will be declared to “no longer ride”.

7. The Khan may grant further special exceptions to any membership rule in appropriate cases.

It is recommended that a candidate should:

Develop a persona history, and be ready to tell it (including how he or she, or an ancestor, came to join the Horde).
